Since we all first began enjoying the World Wide Web through the use of a measly 56k modem connection, things have progressed quite drastically; not just in terms of what we view, but also how we view it. With the introduction of broadband internet access, the way we view the internet has changed forever with many more sites utilizing flash animations, embedded music and video media.
Everyone wants a faster internet connection, whether it is for streaming music or movies, surfing websites, gaming or communicating with others. The good news is that there are some easy ways of improving your connection without spending any money, some of which are listed below. To begin with, if you have recently experienced an unexplainable drop in internet access speeds then you should first try the most obvious solution; reboot. Although it sounds almost too simple to be effective, sometimes computers attempt to run conflicting protocols and settings in the pc and router get confused and all it takes is for you to turn off both units and turn them on again so that they can reload the default settings and start again, fresh.
If you are using a wireless connection, it helps to be as close to the wireless router as possible. If it is possible then try to position your wireless router in the same room as your computer, and aim the aerial vertically to ensure the best possible broadcast area. If this is not possible then try to make sure that there is as little as possible, in terms of walls and electrical appliances, in between your pc and the router. Wireless connections are not only useful, but they reduce all the clutter that can take over your house by using ethernet cables linking the computers in your home. The only downside is that they are not as stable and consistent as wired connections so if you really want to make the most from your broadband, look into getting some wired connections installed.
Having a faster computer will also make your internet surfing speeds increase. Although this will not directly affect your bandwidth, it will affect your computers ability to decode and process data and display information. Sometimes this can be as easy as reducing the number of programs that are running on your pc in the background. The easiest way to see that is by looking at the programs in your taskbar. Do you really need all those programs running at once? If your computer decides it needs another program, it can always load it when it wants.
