Start your day right: Eat breakfast

It is said so often that it now sounds clich©, but breakfast really is the most imperative meal of the day. The word “breakfast” comes from the idea that you are breaking your food fast from the previous day (when your last meal was consumed) and the early meal is important for maintaining energy levels and a steady metabolism throughout the day. Research has shown those who skip breakfast are far more likely to have problems with concentration and weight.

Eating a good breakfast also means that both your mind and body will feel more awake, so you will be more productive at work and spend less time seeking out those coffee machines!

Many people argue that they simply do not have enough time to eat in the mornings but getting ready for your day ahead does not have to stop in the wake of food preparation. Why not get dressed or do your hair whilst using the microwave to prepare some porridge? The ticking-down timer may even urge you to get ready faster! Toasters can be used similarly can you get your shoes and socks on before your toast pops up? Lack of time for breakfast is only beneficial in the respect that your beloved (and fatty!) fry ups will only occur once a week at weekends.

If you really can’t squeeze a good brekkie in before you leave the house, at the very least pack some fruit to munch on the train whilst reading that abandoned Metro - your body and mind will feel much better for it!

The recommended number of calories you should have for breakfast is 350-500. Any less than 350 will mean your body does not have the energy it requires to get through the morning but exceeding 500 calories may see your body storing the extra energy as fat.
