When it comes to getting a DUI one of the things you have to understand is what to do next. Most people know when they get a DUI then they are in trouble, but you need to know a lot more than that in order to get out with a little bit of dignity left over. My advice to you is before you do anything you should first call an attorney and see if they can represent you. If you don’t have an attorney then a judge is going to push you until you crack and with an attorney they won’t let that happen.
Something you need to understand is that once you get a DUI you will have a certain amount of time to call the Department of Motor Vehicles and schedule a hearing. This is very important because if you don’t do this then you won’t have any say in what happens in regards to your license. Something that you need to understand is every state has a different timeframe and if you miss it you will automatically get your license suspended and often times revoked. Don’t forget to call because you will receive more fines and you will have to live without your driver’s license for a while.
One thing you must know is that a lawyer can get you off with just a slap on the wrist if you are lucky and they know what they are doing. What most attorneys look for is the credibility of the tester or the testing equipment from your field sobriety test and that’s how they get a lot of the results thrown out, this means you could get away with no fines at all. The reason why you need to know this is because only attorneys will be able to get this information and see if it is valid and that is why you need a good attorney. Don’t be fooled when a judge says you don’t need an attorney, you need one and you should have one prior to getting up in front of an attorney.
Something you need to understand is your appearance matters when you are in the courtroom. What most people don’t understand is that you must look like your attorney if you want to get off with as little as possible. What a lot of individuals don’t understand is what you wear is a fourth of the determining factors in telling if you will be guilty or not. Although a judge is not going to check whether you are wearing designer clothes or not they will look to see if you look like you’ll drink and drive again or if you learned your lesson the first time. Remember this quick DUI guide because getting a DUI is nothing to take lightly, no matter how serious it might have been.
